We see a lot of things in the field that make us cringe with concern, and these two photos highlight some of those instances. Bypassing safety controls and overload components is never, under any circumstance, an acceptable practice. Even temporarily, for the sake of a clients comfort, this can create a dangerous situation, or cause catastrophic damage. Our goal is to leave each and every job we perform, knowing your system is as close to factory fresh as possible. This ensures your heating and air conditioning system will run as reliably, efficiently, and as safely as the manufacturer designed it to be! We take your safety even more seriously than your comfort. So please forgive us if we can’t, under every circumstance, get your system back online the same day. We promise to return asap to restore your comfort, but safety must always come first. Taking short cuts is not how we operate here at Comfort Craft LLC, and we’ll keep taking the long road to uphold our dedication to uncompromising integrity in everything we do.

Have You Checked Your Air Filters Recently?
We’re huge advocates of proper maintenance here at Comfort Craft Heating and Air Conditioning. Many of the repairs we make could have been prevented, or at least caught early on, during a routine Maintenance Inspection. Catching repairs early helps to prevent nuisance break downs when you need your comfort system to work the most!
Changing the air filters regularly is the most important thing a homeowner can do to keep their system operating reliably. The Air Flow arrow, as seen above, needs to point in the direction the air is flowing through the duct, which will always be towards the furnace. The metal mesh on the back side helps keep the pleated surface area in shape, and prevents it from collapsing in the event it is forgotten for a little too long. It is possible for a severely clogged filter to get drawn into the blower and cause damage. Even having no filtration due to a partial collapse will allow dust, dirt, and debris to clog the blower wheel, as well as A/C cooling coil, which can be costly to clean, and will eventually cause poor performance, or complete failure. So be sure to check and change your filters every 1-3 months to keep your air clean, your furnace clean, and your system running the best that it can!
Prevent a Dryer Fire!
Utilizing the correct materials for the job is often more important than you might think. Flexible dryer hose is only intended to be used in the shortest length possible to connect your dryer to the vent connection on the wall. However this material is not suitable for the entire dryer vent run through walls, attics, and crawlspaces! That’s what we found here, an excessively long flex hose was used, and the ribbed design had collected dangerous amounts of very flammable lint. We’re Do-It-Yourselfers ourselves, and we can appreciate that quality in our customers as well, but please, PLEASE, do your research first. If you aren’t 120% sure you’re making a mechanical repair correctly, then call in a professional, and save yourself some trouble at very least, and a possible fire or worse! Also, be sure to check and clean your dryer vents every year, and you’ll be on your way to preventing a Dryer Fire!
Team Work Makes the Dream Work
Did you know that us Munz brothers have a long history of working together? Nearly 10 years of our careers have been at the same companies! From smaller residential jobs, to big supermarket compressor replacements of yesteryear, as seen in the photo. We’re no strangers to turning wrenches side-by-side. Jobs tend to go quite smoothly when both technicians know what the other is capable of, and each step of the process is a synchronized transition. Those characteristics are a driving force in Comfort Craft as a whole, and our previous years in the field together continue to play a major role in how we operate now.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!
Maintenance Is Vital
Maintenance is vital to keeping your heating and air conditioning running safely and reliably for as long as possible. An Under or Over fired gas furnace can lead to higher operating costs, as well as damage to the unit. Heat Pumps and Air Conditioners are susceptible to similar issues when left unchecked. Living our whole lives here in the Tacoma, Puyallup, and surrounding areas, we know that reliable heat is important, because no one wants to come home to an uncomfortable home during our long, cold, and wet winters!
Some folks often neglect their heating or cooling for many years thinking everything is fine because, Hey, It Still Works! When a failure does occur, suddenly find themselves faced with a very costly repair bill. With a system at 10 or more years of age, this is likely to put you in a position where replacing it with a higher efficiency unit may be a better investment.
Many HVAC components wear slowly, but surely, over time, while still allowing the unit to operate without any warning of problems to come. By performing yearly Tune-Ups and making individual repairs as they arise, you can prevent the compounding of multiple failing components, ensure optimal performance, and keep your system running for the entirety of its expected service life!
Comfort Craft Family
It’s a family operation here at Comfort Craft, and these two are the next generation of Comfort Craft brothers. They spend lots of time with their Dad, Wes, and Uncle Kris, in the shop, and around the house working on various projects. Cars, boats, tractors, you name it, they are quickly learning the basic fundamentals of hands-on mechanics. We grew up right here in Tacoma, Wa. doing the very same things with our father, and eventually that became the catalyst that launched our adult careers in this industry.
We hope to pass on our knowledge, and if they so choose, may one day carry on the Comfort Craft Legacy. In the mean time though, we’ll just keep making new memories while we watch these two silly little guys learn about the mechanics of the world around them.
Life In The Pacific Northwest
A beautiful view from one of our clients own back yard! While getting some heating issues all sorted out on a cold, crisp, December morning, we couldn’t help but take a few moments to appreciate this amazing view of Mt. Rainier.
It’s a unique perk to working in this industry, always seeing new places and meeting new people. We’ve learned so much, and made a lot of great memories and friends along the way. It’s pretty amazing really, and we appreciate every opportunity it brings. We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas to everyone, and we hope that you have a very Happy New Year as well!
Comfort Kitty
Comfort Kitty is here to remind you to change your filters! Your systems performance, reliability, and longevity are all negatively effected by running it for extended periods of time with a clogged filter. This will lead to costly repairs and reduced service life.
A Study by the Environment Protection Agency indicated that as little as .042 inches of dust accumulation on a heating or cooling coil can cause a 21% decrease in efficiency! Not to mention the possible health effects of poor indoor air quality. So keep those filters fresh, and save yourself some trouble down the road 🙂
